Wind turbine installation at Aura Leisure Centre, Youghal Co.Cork
Windturbines.ie have installed and commissioned a Vestas V17 / 75Kw wind turbine at Aura Leisure Centre in Youghal, Co.Cork. The wind turbine is connected to the Leisure centre and provides electricity to the centre in conjunction with the local grid supply.
The project was started in November 2011, erected by February 2012 and received final grid connection approval in July 2012. The turbine was officially opened by Junior Minister of State T.D. Michael Ring on July 24th.

800Kw Enercon Windturbine, Dublin, Ireland
Windturbines.ie in co-operation with Alpha Wind Ireland has completed an installation for a 800Kw Enercon Windturbine for a Potato Processing Factory in North County Dublin. http://www.countrycrest.ie/ Construction on the site commenced in November 2008 and the installation was completed by mid Spring 2009.
The Enercon 800KW will produce upwards of 2,400,000 Kwh annually at this site. The turbine is standing on a 55m tower and will be connected straight into the factory 0.5km away. At times during the year some surplus power will be spilt back onto the grid however it is expected that the turbine will satisfy up to 80% of the facilities electricity requirements.
Met Mast Installation, Cork, Ireland
Windturbines.ie has completed a wind mapping project for five International Pharmaceutical companies based in Ireland. Pfizer, Centocor, Novartis, GSK and Depuy. This involved erecting three 60m meterological masts which allowed the companies to gain information on the energy yield from wind in the area. Measuring of wind was being conducted at 30,45 and 60m. In addition to the wind mapping project, financial budgets, Environmental Impact Assessments and turbine siting projects were undertaken. An Irish Times newspaper article on the proposed development can be view here http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2010/0827/1224277690542.html
Pictures of the met mast installation can be seen below. We are also in the process of preparing feasibility studies for twelve other projects around the country for large energy users. Details of these projects will be posted here soon.
Auto Production Project 150Kw turbine, Northern Gear & Tool, Arbroath, Scotland
Windturbines.ie have been appointed by Northern Gear & Tool to project manage the installation of a 150kw turbine at their premises in Arbroath, Scotland. This is a challenging project as the factory is located in the centre of Arbroath in an industrial area. This project is currently in planning and has involved collaboration with the Ministry of Defence (MOD) in the UK due to the proximity of Leuchars RAF base at St. Andrews. The photomontage below shows the location of the turbine within the industrial area.
Reconditioned 500Kw Turbine, Cork, Ireland
Windturbines.ie are in the process of securing planning permission for the installation of one single 500Kw rated turbine in Cork, Ireland. This turbine will be grid connected and will be connected at a 499KW rating. This process bypasses the curent Electricity Regulator Gate connection process and allows a grid connection within 3-6 months at suitable connecting points. We are at the forefront of this connection process in Ireland with a large number of sites secured nationwide and currently within the planning process. It is hoped to commence building this project in the summer of 2011. The images below show a photomontage and a location map of photo points to comprise of a small section of the EIS planning application.
1000 MW Wind Farm development Joint Venture, South Africa
Windturbines.ie has teamed up with Alpha Wind, Ireland and Eurocape Holdings, South Africa to agressively enter the new renewable energy market in South Africa. Eurocape Holdings are large property developers in Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg and bring a wealth of experience in working in South Africa. Their knowledge of the planning regulations, ability to raise developers finance and a vibrant working office in Cape Town sits extremely well with the wind farm developing experience of ourselves and Alpha Wind. Current activities are at land lease stage with one particular site of approx 150MW potential moving to wind measurement in February 2011. Our aim is to secure up to 1000MW of projects over the next number of years.
